Shine Charity – Spina Bifida Awareness Week

For over 28 years, HTC Architects has proudly supported Shine Charity, formerly known as the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH) – the UK’s specialist charity for people living with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, NPH and related conditions. 🫶

Spina bifida literally means ‘split spine’ and can often be identified at the 20-week screening scan. It occurs in the womb when a fault in the development of the spinal cord and surrounding vertebrae leaves a gap or split in a baby’s spine, causing the spinal cord to not form properly or become damaged. ⛓️‍💥

During this Spina Bifida Awareness Week (19 – 25 October), we’re helping raise awareness of this lifelong condition and the importance of providing the right support to the 15,000 people and families affected across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.❤️‍🩹

Shine provides expert information, practical support, advocacy and vital connections for individuals and families – from supporting parents following a diagnosis during pregnancy, to helping children thrive, young people build confidence, and adults access the services and opportunities they need, Shine is there at every stage of life. 🤝
